Welcome To Tamworth Distilling.

Our story is as old as America itself, planting our flag in the heart of a historic New Hampshire village. We’ve set up our distillery in accordance to the land around us, not against it. What we take, we give back. And what we have, we give to you. Taking a cue from the 19th century Transcendentalists of New England, we pull our inspiration and our ingredients from the environment that surrounds us. From start to finish, each spirit embodies our scratch made ethos: local, house-milled grain, pure White Mountain water, herbs and botanicals from the woods and our garden, and local fruits and vegetables.


STEVEN GRASSE

Featured in Food & Wine as one of the top Drinks Innovators of the Year for 2023, Steven’s first venture into the world of spirits was through the creation of the brands Hendrick’s Gin and Sailor Jerry Rum. From a there a passion was born for quality craft spirits and the desire to learn the process from start to finish. In 2015, he established Tamworth Distilling & Mercantile, a farm-to-bottle distillery designed to bring this vision to life. From botanical gins to award-winning whiskeys, Steve and his team have challenged the boundaries of the industry, most recently releasing House of Tamworth Spruce & Goose – a whiskey infused with foraged spruce tips and locally sourced goose.

GARDEN TO GLASS

Many of the ingredients used are
sourced from local farms, or our own
backyard botanical gardens. For flavors that
can only be found in the wild, we’ll forage
from our other backyard–the rich New
Hampshire wilderness.

250 GALLON
COPPER STILL

Our 250 gallon copper still was custom built by Vendome in Kentucky, and outfitted with a brandy helmet, whiskey column, gin basket, and rectifying column. These components give us the versatility to produce a variety of different products, and change batches with the seasons.

THE OSSIPEE
STRATIFIED AQUIFER

Tamworth’s water comes from the Ossipee Stratified Aquifer, one of the purest sources on the East Coast. More importantly, it lies on granite bedrock — you cannot frack in granite, so this pure source is safe from that type of industrial pollution.

DESIGN

Our meticulous design process for each spirit begins with months of in-depth research. From the liquid formulation to the final glass bottle, our team is intimately involved every step of the way. Each bottle is then individually washed, filled, and labeled by hand right here in Tamworth.
