Tamworth Garden Barrel Reserve Flora Gin

Once a whiskey has been in a barrel a distiller cannot use it for other whiskey and make an age statement. This means used barrels have but one life when making a whiskey, but they can impart amazing flavor to other spirits. We took that opportunity to finish our Flora Gin in these used wheat whiskey barrels. The result is something completely unexpected and greater than the sum of its parts.

We finished our Flora Gin, with all of its summery, wildflower notes, in our used wheat whiskey barrels for over a year, as it extracted the wood sugars and flavors and transformed its fresh-cut flower flavors into something tropical. The mellowing effect gives it a whiskey drinkability, while the botanical base makes for some excelled cocktail potential. These warmer barrel characteristics are balanced with a smoothed over juniper note.

Left at a pretty sizable 100 proof, it surprisingly lacks heat, which creates the perfect sipper, much like a whiskey.
